John focuses his practice on debt finance, restructuring, special situations and insolvency, representing a wide variety of stakeholders including creditors, debtors, loan servicers, trustees, and insolvency practitioners. He has experience working on a wide variety of transactions, concentrating on complex cross-border debt financings, secondary debt acquisitions, structured financings, schemes of arrangement and restructuring plans, administrations, company voluntary arrangements and liquidations. He also regularly advises investment banks, hedge funds, private equity houses, asset managers and other credit investors in their review, diligence, and strategy with respect to primary and secondary European and US investment opportunities in par, stressed and distressed transactions.

 

Experience
  • Advised the Lifeways Group and its directors on seven inter-conditional restructuring plans proposed under Part 26A of the Companies Act 2006 (2022 - 23).
  • Advised Searchlight Capital Partners and Invesco Senior Secured Management as an investor group of first and second lien lenders on the refinancing of the Mediapro group of companies (2021 - 22).
  • Advising the ad-hoc group of convertible noteholders issued by intu (Jersey) 2 Ltd and guaranteed by intu Properties plc (2020 - 2023).
  • Advised the coordinating committee of noteholders on the comprehensive financial restructuring of €675 million in bank and bond debt of the Lecta S.A. group of companies, as well as the subsequent €55 million recapitalisation following the COVID-19 pandemic (2019 - 20).
  • Advised New Look Retailers Limited in its company voluntary arrangement (2018).
  • Advised the ad-hoc committee of noteholders on the £700 million recapitalization of The Co-operative Bank p.l.c. (2017).
  • Advised EA Partners I B.V. on its debut issue of $700 million 6.875% notes due 2020. Also advised on the follow-on financing platform established by EA Partners II B.V., and issues that arose from the administration of Alitalia and the insolvency of Air Berlin (2015-18).
