Expertise

Emily Tilden-Smith is a Legal Director and Solicitor-Advocate in Addleshaw Goddard's Commercial Disputes team, based in London. She advises a broad range of clients on their complex contentious mandates and disputes. 

Emily has considerable experience in commercial litigation, and in particular handling multi-party disputes and group litigation. She has advised on complex and high-value cases in the High Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and Privy Council, and she previously served as judicial assistant to Lord Dyson. 

Emily has a particular interest and expertise in contentious mandates in the retail and consumer and financial services sectors.

Emily joined the team in April 2025 from Freshfields where she was a Senior Associate in its Dispute Resolution department. 

Experience

Emily's experience includes advising:

  • a major corporate in shareholder litigation arising out of a profit overstatement; 
  • an English holding company on a USD1 billion claim arising out of enforcement action taken by its subsidiary bank; 
  • a major corporate in relation to a multi-million pound fraud perpetrated by its senior director; 
  • a financial institution in relation to a USD2 billion claim concerning alleged breach of a restructuring agreement; 
  • a global TV production company on a fraud claim against a former director for the embezzlement of significant sums; and
  • the Criminal Bar Association (pro bono) on its high-profile judicial review challenge of the Legal Services Board's Quality Assurance Scheme for Advocates, in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
