Merijn is a counsel in our Restructuring & Insolvency practice. He specialises in restructuring, insolvency and dispute resolution, with a special focus on cross-border work. He advises and litigates in the fields of restructuring, insolvency, security rights, commercial contracts, attachments and directors’ liability. He is regularly appointed by the court as administrator or receiver in suspensions of payment and bankruptcies respectively and has notable experience with WHOA/Dutch scheme proceedings and out-of-court compositions.

Experience
  • Acting as court-appointed bankruptcy trustee of Crystal River Cruises Services Cooperatief U.A., part of leisure and hospitality giant Genting Group
  • Acting as court-appointed bankruptcy trustee of Hollandse Energie Maatschappij, a Dutch energy supplier
  • Acting as counsel to a software-as-a-service provider which successfully offered an out-of-court composition to its lenders
  • Acting as counsel to a UK-based company that financed and acquired a majority stake of the shares in a Dutch company in distress through a WHOA agreement 
    • Acting as counsel to a software-as-a-service provider in suspension of payments proceedings, in which a moratorium agreement was offered to the creditors that was sanctioned by the court
