Addleshaw Goddard announces expansion into the Netherlands

Addleshaw Goddard (AG), the international law firm, is entering the Netherlands’ legal market with the integration of Florent, a leading Amsterdam-based law firm.

The merger with Florent, a full-service Dutch corporate law firm located in the heart of the Zuidas financial district, is a significant milestone in the firm’s ambitious AG2030 international growth strategy.

The Netherlands is a major economy and an important jurisdiction for international transactions, finance and disputes. Florent has built one of the most respected independent practices in the Dutch market, with a strong reputation for client service, high-quality legal advice and an entrepreneurial culture closely aligned with Addleshaw Goddard’s own values.

Florent is known for its expertise in corporate/M&A, disputes, restructuring and insolvency, commercial real estate, employment, banking and finance, and asset recovery across a range of industry sectors. The team of 104 legal and business services professionals, including 17 partners and 44 lawyers, will join Addleshaw Goddard on 1st July, creating AG’s 22nd office.

The opening of an Amsterdam office significantly enhances Addleshaw Goddard’s ability to support its clients through its European platform. It underlines AG’s commitment to meeting the international needs of clients, following successful office launches in Warsaw and Abu Dhabi in 2025, and openings in Madrid, Riyadh, four cities in Germany, as well as in Dublin, Luxembourg, and Paris in recent years.

Andrew Johnston, Managing Partner of Addleshaw Goddard, comments:

"Florent fills an important missing piece in our European platform. We have listened to demand from clients and colleagues across our international network for Dutch law capability for some time. We were determined to find a team that shared our ambition, entrepreneurial approach and focus on quality. In Florent, we have found exactly that.

“Our clients increasingly operate across borders and expect consistently high quality advice wherever it is required. For many, the Netherlands is a key jurisdiction and gateway to Europe. The addition of Florent significantly strengthens our ability to support clients on their most important strategic, transactional and contentious matters. We look forward to welcoming the Florent team to AG and together delivering exceptional outcomes for our clients.”

Chris Jager and Kees van de Meent, Managing Partners of Florent, add:

"Joining Addleshaw Goddard represents an exciting new chapter for our firm, our people and our clients. We are proud of our achievements in the Dutch market and are confident that, as part of Addleshaw Goddard, we will be able to offer even greater service to our clients and opportunities for our team. AG’s ambitious international strategy, collaborative culture, and commitment to excellence are a perfect fit for us. We are excited to contribute to Addleshaw Goddard’s continued growth and to shape the future of the Amsterdam office together."

The merger is expected to complete on 1 July, subject to partner votes and regulatory confirmations, with all of Florent’s 104 fee earning and business services colleagues joining Addleshaw Goddard. Chris Jager and Kees van de Meent will continue to lead the Amsterdam office.
