Expertise

Qualified in Singapore, yet bilingual in both English and Japanese, Edward focuses on construction and infrastructure related disputes and arbitration in Asia.

Throughout his career, Edward has handled legal issues governed by the laws of various countries in Asia. Besides his home jurisdiction of Singapore, Edward’s experience also includes issues governed by the laws of Japan, Indonesia and Bangladesh. He has also acted in arbitrations before the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

Besides arbitration, Edward also leverages on his experience in dispute resolution to provide general corporate advice with a view of risk management. His past experience also includes acting in and advising on litigation in the courts of Singapore. 

As one of the few Singapore-qualified lawyers who are proficient in Japanese, Edward frequently advises and represents Japanese clients. He has also authored material to promote understanding of arbitration amongst Japanese businesses.

  • Acting for Tokyo-listed advertising agency against major Hong Kong-based game developer in SIAC arbitration.
  • Obtaining of award in favour of Japanese generator supplier against Australian renewable energy consultancy in ICC expedited arbitration.
  • Obtaining consent award for Japanese government-related engineering firm against Bangladeshi state-owned electricity supplier in ICC arbitration arising out of project for construction of underground substation.
