Shyamal Jeewoolall is a Partner in the Dubai office and a leading specialist in aviation finance and asset-backed structured finance.
He advises a wide range of aviation industry participants, including airlines, lessors, international and regional banks, export credit agencies and alternative capital providers on complex, cross-border transactions. His practice covers the lifecycle of aviation assets, from purchase and financing through to leasing, maintenance, restructuring and repossession. Clients rely on him both the technical depth of his financing expertise and his hands-on approach.
Shyamal’s experience covers a wide range of financing structures, including pre-delivery financings, export credit-supported transactions, commercial lending, tax-based (including JOLCOs and French tax leases) as well as Sharia-compliant financings. He is also regularly instructed on sale and leaseback transactions, operating leases and portfolio acquisitions and disposals.
In distressed scenarios, Shyamal advises on enforcement strategies, repossessions and restructurings, often in multi-jurisdictional contexts involving challenging legal and regulatory frameworks. Over the past two decades, Shyamal has successfully repossessed airframe and/or engines in Egypt, India, Indonesia, Italy and Jordan.
His practice is particularly noted for its strength in the Middle East, where he combines international financing expertise with deep regional knowledge.
Shyamal is dual-qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales and as an avocat admitted to the Paris Court of Appeal, giving clients the benefit of seamless cross-border legal coverage across common law and civil law jurisdictions.

- Advised a syndicate of international and regional lenders on the US$800m conventional and sharia-compliant financing to an operating lessor through a Protected Cell Company incorporated in ADGM.
- Advised a syndicate of banks on the US$1.2b revolving credit facility to a GCC flag carrier.
- Advised an aircraft lessor on the sharia compliant financing of 20 Airbus A330 aircraft and 30 Airbus A320 aircraft to be operated by a GCC flag-carrier.
- Advised a UAE-based airline on the refinancing of an Airbus A380 aircraft an international bank for through the DIFC-based leasing subsidiary of the bank.
- Advised an African flag-carrier on the US EXIM financing of 2 Boeing 787 aircraft with the financing being provided by way of a French tax lease.
- Advised a Japanese bank on the JOLCO financing of an Airbus A350 aircraft to a European flag carrier.
