Gareth is a partner in our commercial dispute resolution team. He specialises in high value and complex commercial disputes across a range of sectors. His expertise spans a number of areas of law including contractual disputes and disputes arising from termination of contracts; corporate, shareholder and joint venture disputes; supply chain disputes; and disputed debt claims (including those raising insolvency issues).
Gareth takes a holistic view of the dispute management tools available to achieve a client's commercial objectives. He frequently advises clients in the background to ensure that disputes do not escalate to formal legal proceedings, but is accustomed to conducting proceedings both before the Courts and before arbitral tribunals. He has extensive experience of resolving disputes by alternative means, including mediation.
Gareth's experience includes:
- advising a property development company in relation to a dispute with a joint venture partner arising from alleged failures to progress development works
- acting for the buyer of a business in £55m expert determination proceedings arising from a deferred consideration mechanism in the business purchase agreement
- successfully acting for the buyers of a biomass energy business in relation to breach of warranty claims brought against the sellers of the business under the asset purchase agreement, including complex enforcement proceedings in several jurisdictions
- acting for a national oil company in international arbitration proceedings arising from a charterparty dispute, involving allegations of fraud and misrepresentation
- acting for a UK private bank in proceedings brought by a former trading partner arising from alleged breaches of contract and alleged loss of earnings

- advising a major UK utilities company in relation to a dispute arising from the smart metering rollout
- advising a manufacturer of solar panels in a contractual dispute concerning terms as to delivery and price
- advising a manufacturer of inverters and ancillary equipment in relation to a claim by an operator of UK based solar farms that the equipment supplied was defective
- advising a major UK utilities company in relation to a dispute arising from a project for the development of technology which would automate certain of its processes
- advising a major UK manufacturing plc in relation to a range of disputes arising within its supply chain over a number of years
- advising individual members in a fintech.
