Emma acts on behalf of the major clearing banks, lenders, administrators and receivers on the real estate aspects of corporate restructurings and insolvencies.

Emma's particular specialism is the property aspects of corporate administrations, having significant experience in the retail and leisure sectors. Emma has led the real estate aspects of the administrations of Homebase, DW Sports and Xercise4Less in recent years.

Emma has experience of managing landlord relationships during a company's administration and defending applications by landlords to lift the statutory moratorium to forfeit leases under section 146 of the Law of Property Act 1925.

Emma regularly acts on behalf of fixed charge receivers in the management and sale of high value multi-let buildings and complex development sites.

Emma has completed a secondment with Clydesdale Bank PLC t/a Virgin Money and has been ranked as a "key lawyer" in the Legal 500 for the past three years.

Experience

Recent experience and transactions include: 

  • Leading the property elements of administration of Homebase, including the sale of part of the business to The Range.
  • Acting on behalf of Lloyds Pharmacy Limited on the sale of over 50 pharmacy sites in six months.
  • Advising the administrators of DW Sports on the real estate aspects of the sale of the business and assets to Frasers Group.
  • Advising the administrators of Xercise4Less on the property elements of the sale of the business and assets to JD Sports.
  • Acting on behalf of Terra Firma Investments in connection with the sale of various Wyevale Garden Centre sites, including sites which were continuing as garden centre businesses and sites to be redeveloped for alternative uses.
