Expertise

James is a partner in the banking and finance team specialising in receivables financing, asset based lending, specialty finance, warehouse lending and trade finance. 

James advises a broad range of national and international clients. He acts for lenders, including clearing banks, challenger banks, independent ABLs, specialist lenders, other non-bank and alternative lenders, agents and account banks as well as advising corporate borrowers.

James acts on bilateral, syndicated and cross border transactions, focusing on front-end structuring and execution and extending to portfolio management issues, general banking and cash management arrangements, product development and compliance in addition to advising on restructurings and downside scenarios. He has particular expertise in relation to receivables financing structures, hybrid corporate and asset based lending facilities, working capital products, borrowing base facilities, non-recourse structures and supplier and supply chain finance.

Exeperience

Recent experience includes:

  • advising a lender on a £25m borrowing base facility secured over unregulated receivables for a bridging and property finance provider
  • advising a global retail business on £80m asset based lending facilities (receivables and inventory)
  • advising an ABL on £30m invoice discounting and inventory facilities provided to a premium wine and spirit supplier
  • advising an EV provider on a £9m flexible block discounting facility to support continued growth 
  • advising a lender on a $100m loan note issuance facility provided to a global digital trade finance provider
  • advising a broad range of borrowers, ABLs, trade financers and banks in relation to bespoke multi-jurisdictional, borrowing base, supply chain and trade finance facilities
