Addleshaw Goddard doubles down on Scotland ambitions with two new office moves

  • Firm taking 83% more space in Glasgow and 60% more space in Edinburgh
  • Moving to prime locations on St Vincent Street and St Andrew Square

International law firm Addleshaw Goddard has backed its ambition for further growth in the Scottish market by announcing a double move to new office premises in Edinburgh and Glasgow over the next 12 months – significantly increasing its footprint in both cities.

The firm, which reported 17% growth in Scotland in FY23/24 – its seventh consecutive year of double-digit growth - as part of global turnover of £496 million, currently has 310 people, including 47 Partners, across its offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

The Glasgow move, which is expected to take place in early 2026, will see the firm relocate from its current home on West Regent Street to 151-155 St Vincent Street, an iconic building in the heart of Glasgow city centre. The move will see the firm take the entire fourth floor, almost doubling its space in the city. A complete refit is currently underway, creating a destination office which reflects the firm's vision, brand and standing in the market.

In Edinburgh, the firm is taking almost 30,000 sq ft in one of the best buildings in the city at 24 St Andrew Square. The building has been completely refurbished, maintaining its classical façade but providing modern, open plan efficient offices, including a new fourth floor and roof terrace overlooking the square.

Addleshaw Goddard will occupy the top four floors, representing a 60% increase on its current space at Exchange Tower on Canning Street. The fit out will begin this summer with staff relocating in 2026.

The firm has increased headcount by 65% since its merger with HBJ in 2017. In the past year alone, new Partner hires have included Anya Duncan (Employment) in Aberdeen, Martin Devine (Real Estate) in Glasgow and Sophia Harrison (Restructuring) in Edinburgh.

The domestic growth has come against a backdrop of rapid international expansion, with nine new offices in the past three years: Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin, Luxembourg, Dublin, Madrid, Saudi Arabia, Warsaw and Abu Dhabi, giving Addleshaw Goddard an international network of 21 offices.

The firm substantially increased its footprint in Dublin earlier this year with the relocation to new offices and is in the process of refurbishing premises in the heart of the City of London to become the firm's new, larger headquarters.

Alan Shanks, Head of Scotland at Addleshaw Goddard, said: "These are exciting times for the firm in Scotland, and our new homes in Edinburgh and Glasgow will help fuel our ambitions. Both offices provide a state-of-the-art workplace that will enhance how we work and deliver for our clients nationally and internationally, and will help us to attract and retain the best talent in the market."

Andrew Johnston, Managing Partner, Addleshaw Goddard, said: "Our team led by Alan plays a vital role in enabling clients in Scotland to do business domestically and internationally. Increasing our office space in Edinburgh and Glasgow provides a platform for future growth as we continue to develop our services to meet the needs of clients."

Addleshaw Goddard provides a full range of commercial legal services in Scotland, across all sectors including Energy, Financial Services, Real Estate, Transport, Advanced Manufacturing, Technology, Health, Retail and Consumer and Sport.
