Addleshaw Goddard LLP acts for Berwickshire Community Renewables as borrower on a funding package from Triodos and the Renewable Energy Investment Fund

Primary loan purpose: To finance Hoprigshiels Wind Farm, a joint venture between two charities: Community Energy Scotland and Berwickshire Housing Association.

Green Finance Aspect: Berwickshire Housing Association identified that in order to solve the shortage of social housing stock in Berwickshire, they would have to take an innovative approach. In looking at ways to address the issue, they embarked on developing the Hoprigshiels wind project – a project located within the local community, to serve the local community. Berwickshire Housing Association will use the project revenues to build 500 affordable homes in Berwickshire over 25 years – making it the first wind farm in the UK to use project revenues to build social housing. Community Energy Scotland are planning to use the revenues they receive from the project to reinvest and support community projects across Scotland. In addition, the wind farm will provide enough clean energy to power 5,900 homes, saving 12,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

Addleshaw Goddard LLP acts for special purpose company Adjaristsqali Georgia LLC (AGL), as borrower, in connection with $300,000,000 loans from International Finance Corporation, European Bank of Reconstruction and Development and Asian Development Bank. 

Primary loan purpose: to finance the construction of the Shuakhevi hydropower project, a 187 MW hydropower project located in the Republic of Georgia. 

Green Finance Aspect: The Shuakhevi project will generate approximately 540 GWh clean energy while reducing Georgia's dependence on imported energy. The project is the first hydro project in Georgia developed in line with international financial institution standards in the field of land acquisition, involuntary resettlement and stakeholder engagement. The project involved extensive CSR program aimed at local infrastructure development, support to income-generating initiatives, and various educational and awareness-raising activities.

Addleshaw Goddard LLP acts for Red Rock Power as borrower on an £80,000,000 loan from NatWest

Primary loan purpose: to finance Afton Wind Farm, a 50MW onshore wind farm in East Ayrshire and one of the last ROC subsidised projects in the UK

Green Finance Aspect: the provision of sufficient renewable energy to power 35,000 homes. Over its lifetime, the project will contribute £6.25 million to the local community through community benefit grants.

Addleshaw Goddard LLP acts for Point & Sandwick Power as borrower on an £14,600,000 funding package from Santander, Social Investment Scotland, the Scottish Investment Bank and big lottery Fund

Primary loan purpose: to provide project finance for Beinn Grideag Wind Farm, a 9MW onshore wind farm on Lewis, the largest community-owned wind farm in the UK

Green Finance Aspect: the project currently delivers £900,000 each year in net income to support projects for the local community. This will rise to £2m once capital costs have been repaid.

Addleshaw Goddard LLP acts for lenders to Diamond Transmission Partners on the £190m project financing of this OFTO project which closed in April 2018. This project involved the acquisition of the cable which connects offshore wind farms to the store and the grid.

Addleshaw Goddard LLP advises the lenders to Diamond Transmission Partners on the £450m project financing of this OFTO project which closed in October 2019. This project involved the acquisition of the cable which connects offshore wind farms to the store and the grid.

Addleshaw Goddard LLP advises the lenders to Diamond Transmission Partners on the £275m project financing of this OFTO project which closed in February 2020. This project involved the acquisition of the cable which connects offshore wind farms to the store and the grid.


Addleshaw Goddard acts on Walney Extension OFTO 

Addleshaw Goddard LLP advises the lenders to Diamond Transmission Partners on the £475m project financing of this OFTO project which is due to close in May 2020. This project involved the acquisition of the cable which connects offshore wind farms to the store and the grid.


Addleshaw Goddard LLP acts for two major international bank in connection with mixed use London Development Finance transaction incorporating green loan principles on a mixed use hotel, office, retail and PRD site.

Green Finance Aspect: The AG team assisted on all aspects of the deal with the financing arrangements catering for a phased construction procurement approach with multiple core contract packages.  The development finance was also structured to comply with "green loan" principles with the lenders, the sponsor and the hotel manager each seeking to deliver sustainability and a positive environmental impact."
