Expertise

Sarah specialises in pension risk transfer, advising insurers, trustees and employers.

Experience

Her experience includes:

  • advising Rothesay Life on a range of large residual risk transactions, including a £1.2bn buy-in of the Bank Section and a £4bn buy-in of the Group Section of the Cooperative Pension Scheme;
  • advising Just Retirement Limited on a range of buy-ins;
  • advising the trustee of a large pension scheme sponsored by a multinational drink and brewing company on a c.£1bn longevity swap;
  • advising the trustee of the Thales UK Pension Scheme on its £2.7bn residual risk buy-in;
  • advising the trustee of the Mitchells & Butler Pension Plan on its £1.2bn full buy-in;
  • undertaking due diligence and benefit specification production for trustees, both as part of their buy-in process and to facilitate the better running of their ongoing pension schemes;
  • supporting trustee boards on the merger and sectionalisation of their pension schemes, including several multi-scheme mergers and the associated changes needed to their security arrangements; and
  • advising the trustees of schemes in winding-up and underfunded schemes going through the Pension Protection Fund.

Having experience in both private practice and in-house with a large employer allows Sarah to take a commercial and pragmatic view of issues, while focussing on those areas of key risk and concern to her clients.
