Hugh is a Legal Director specialising in technology and telecommunications law and has over 15 years of experience advising private and public sector clients on a range of legal, commercial and regulatory matters in the fields of technology and telecommunications in the UK and Australia.  He is qualified in England and Wales, New York State and Australia (ACT).

Hugh has extensive experience supporting both suppliers and customers in relation to technology related outsourcing and services agreements; telecommunications services; network and digital infrastructure projects; software, cloud and IT platform licensing, use and service provision; technology product and service development; and the technology and business separation aspects of mergers and acquisitions deals.  He also has experience advising on the telecommunications regulatory environment in Australia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Hugh has spent time in-house while on long-term secondment to the technology division of a large state-funded start up in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and to the wholesale business unit of Telstra Corporation, a major Australian telecommunications provider.

Experience
  • A large state-funded start up in the Middle East on its customer supply agreements for a number of technology, digital infrastructure, data and telecommunications products and services *
  • A large global technology company on its network and digital infrastructure agreements with numerous suppliers throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa, including for the provision of fibre transmission services, dark fibre infrastructure, sub-sea cables, colocation and data centres, IP transit agreements, and various other technology and services procurements *
  • National Grid on the transfer of the National Energy System Operator (NESO) from National Grid to government ownership and the long-term transitional support arrangements for technology and telecommunications services to facilitate this transfer *
  • UK based global distributor of consumer and commercial vehicles on its business process outsourcing of its back of house finance and accounting functions across the client's corporate group globally *
  • Transport for London on various large outsourcing projects, including the provision of the IT hardware and software platforms used to administer the London road congestion charging schemes and the re-procurement of radio network services and infrastructure supporting the London underground *
  • A large state-funded start up in the Middle East on various supply agreements for the acquisition of digital infrastructure, hardware, software, platforms and other technology services *
  • TSB Bank on the outsourcing of TSB's IT infrastructure and services to a new service provider and the migration away from TSB's previous service provider *
  • The UK Ministry of Defence on its outsourcing of a large volume of IT hardware and software and related logistics for the storage and transportation of IT hardware used to support its deployed forces in operations around the world *
  • Telstra Corporation on its agreements the sale and transfer of its Australian fixed line telecommunications networks to nbn co limited, and for the supply of wholesale telecommunications services and infrastructure in Australia and the Asia-Pacific, including transmission services, exchange and mobile network access, new product development for fixed line transmission and dark fibre services, MVNO offerings and IP transit and peering *
