Addleshaw Goddard launches Tax Disputes and Investigations practice with strategic team hire

Addleshaw Goddard (AG) has strengthened its disputes and tax offering with the arrival of partner Steven Porter and a four-strong specialist team from Pinsent Masons.

Steven, who previously led Pinsent Masons’ Global Tax & Wealth Focus Area and its Global Tax Disputes & Investigations practice, brings more than 15 years’ experience advising corporates and high net worth individuals on the full spectrum of HMRC interventions, from routine enquiries and complex investigations to litigation, alternative dispute resolution and crisis-related matters.

Joining Steven at Addleshaw Goddard are:

  • Sam Wardleworth, Legal Director
  • Amy Roe, Managing Associate
  • Sophie Warren, Senior Tax Manager
  • Rachel Jones, Tax Manager

Together, the team brings deep expertise across the full spectrum of contentious tax services, including civil disputes, HMRC investigations and advisory work spanning direct and indirect tax, customs, employment and property matters.

Michelle de Kluyver, Partner and Head of Global Investigations, said:

“The market has shifted, with HMRC adopting a more assertive enforcement stance and clients facing increasingly complex and high-stakes tax challenges. Our decision to build a dedicated Tax Disputes and Investigations team is a direct response to this shift—and a reflection of our commitment to helping clients engage constructively with regulators, manage risk effectively and resolve disputes with clarity and confidence.”

Paul Concannon, Partner and Head of Tax and Structuring, added: “Alongside his team, Steven significantly enhances our tax and disputes offerings, addressing a key gap in our capabilities. His broad experience across direct and indirect tax, property, and employment tax, and HNWI matters will be central to building a leading Tax Disputes and Investigations practice.”
