Addleshaw Goddard advises Metinvest on the Piombino green steel production plant
Addleshaw Goddard has advised Metinvest, a leading steel and mining group, on a joint venture with Danieli, a global producer of plant and machinery for the metals industry for the construction of a state-of-the-art steel facility in Piombino, Italy, which is poised to become one of the world's most advanced green steel production facilities.
Metinvest Adria S.p.A. (Italy) will be responsible for the development and operation of the eco-friendly steel rolling plant. The completion of the transaction represents a significant milestone in the strategic partnership between Metinvest and Danieli Group, which aims to develop a state-of-the-art steelmaking and flat-rolled products manufacturing facility in Italy. With a total project cost of over €3 billion, including advanced Danieli technology, the plant will have an annual capacity of 2.7 million tonnes of low-carbon emissions hot-rolled steel. The project will revive a site dormant for more than a decade and is expected to create around 1,100 jobs, with support from Italian national and local authorities.
The Metinvest Adria project aims to serve as a blueprint for future modernizations at Metinvest’s steel manufacturing sites in Ukraine.
The transaction was led by Piotr Zbyszyński (managing associate) and Dan Cousens (partner) supported by Michał Szperzyński (managing associate) and Zuzanna Oldfield (associate) from the Warsaw corporate team.
The core team also comprised Wojciech Podlasin (counsel), Filip Stawicki (managing associate), and Yuliia Stepanyk (associate) from the Warsaw competition practice.
