The Easing of Italy's lockdown was announced on Monday – this article outlines it in detail.
May 4:
- re-opening of 'low risk' businesses – manufacturing (textiles, fashion, automotive, glass); construction and building-related work; supply chain of each (and preliminary work to enable reopening is already permitted)
- bars and restaurants start takeaway and delivery services only
May 18:
- retail trade re-opens (currently only 'essential' retail is open e.g. food, newsagents, pharmacy, tobacconists, stationery and children shops)
- new regulations expected
1st June:
- restaurants, bars, hairdressers, barbers, beauty salons and other personal care activities will re-open
- new regulations expected
Practicalities – how is re-opening expected to work?
- Control of movement/access/work patterns:
- 7-day working weeks across different shifts
- entry/exit arrangements
- scheduling of opening hours
- premises of less than 40 square meters: only one client is allowed for 2 employees
- premises of more than 40 square meters: access dependant on available spaces and entry-exit options
- age-related limits (although there are strong constitutional challenges)
Hygiene and social distancing:
- mandatory social distancing until a treatment / vaccine are available – the '1 metre rule'
- continued mandatory adoption of masks, gloves, protective glasses and other PPE
- fixed pricing for PPE and masks
- additional prevention measures and anti-contagion protocol for more social interaction/contact-intensive industries eg hospitality, hairdressers, beauticians etc.
