What inspired you to return to the firm?

Having begun my legal career at Eugene F. Collins and having thoroughly enjoyed working there for nearly 5 years, I maintained a strong affinity with the firm following my departure. The Addleshaw Goddard merger was big news in the Irish legal market, and I was impressed by the firm’s growth ambitions in Ireland and more generally. My return was initiated by an informal coffee with one of my early mentors in the firm and by my attendance at an alumni event shortly after that. I could sense a very positive energy among the Irish team and was excited to explore an opportunity to return to the fold.
What was the most surprising difference or similarity you noticed upon returning?
The most surprising similarity I noticed upon returning was how the collegiate atmosphere and camaraderie in the firm had not changed during my 7-year absence despite the shift from being a domestic firm to becoming part of a large international firm. I can happily report, more than a year after my return, that the positive culture I fondly remembered is reflected across Addleshaw Goddard.

What was the most surprising difference or similarity you noticed upon returning to AG?

I left as an associate and came back as a partner, which has meant I’m seeing the firm from a different perspective. It’s been really interesting having this break – AG is still the same great firm with excellent people and a really welcoming culture, but it’s bigger than ever with a lot of new faces and offices!
How did your experience outside the firm shape your approach to your current role?
It's great to have come back having worked with different partners and in different roles. Being a partner has so many different aspects to it - managing, marketing, team leading, and of course lawyering - that there are as many ways to be a good partner as there are people. I'm trying to take the best from the people I've worked with and bring that back to AG.

Tell us a little about your journey back to the firm.
After several successful years at AG, I found myself at a crossroads. While I was content with my role and valued the firm's strong market position and global reach, I was curious to explore new horizons. I wanted to gain in-house experience and see business from the other side.
Despite my move, I maintained a strong connection with AG, signing a client agreement with the firm almost immediately. I stayed in touch and maintained relationships with people at the firm, and I always felt that the door was open for my return. I especially appreciated how, even as the firm continues to grow and evolve rapidly, it maintains strong communication across all its offices. It’s a rarity and something I truly value. So, I returned March of last year. I feel I’ve brought with me a wealth of in-house experience and a fresh perspective. I’m thrilled to be back and to contribute in new ways, adding value through the insights I’ve gained.
