Sonia Campbell, a partner at Addleshaw Goddard, has been named in the 2015 Power Part Time List: a national roll call of the UK’s top 50 men and women who work in senior, business-critical roles, all on less than five days per week.

The 2015 Power Part Time List - now in its fourth year - is compiled annually by Timewise co-founders Karen Mattison MBE and Emma Stewart MBE, to create more role models, debunk the myth than you cannot work a top level job on a part time basis and change the conversation from what is perceived as impossible when working flexibly, to what is possible.

Timewise (www.timewise.co.uk) is the UK’s first marketplace for candidates who want some flexibility on where and when they work. Timewise runs multiple services: a national jobs board, a recruitment agency, as well as consultancy and training services.

The List, designed to inspire more employers to open their doors to talented people who need flexible work, has been published in association with Management Today and is supported by businesses that champion workplace change and are at the cutting-edge of finding the best of talent: EY and Diageo, as well as 5 executive search firms(1).

Just one of four people in the legal industry on the list, Sonia works full time during term time, choosing to do so in order to spend more time with her three children during their school holidays.

Sonia is a partner in the Litigation team of international law firm, Addleshaw Goddard LLP. She specialises in Insurance litigation, LLP/partnership disputes and commercial arbitration. Her practice spans a wide variety of business sectors, and her specialism lies in disputes arising in the pharmaceutical, financial services and retail & consumer sectors. Sonia acts for a range of FTSE 100 clients and, due to the flexible way in which she works, her clients have always been supportive of her working pattern, resulting in her now serving as a role model to others wishing to work flexibly.

Addleshaw Goddard has worked hard over the last few years to embed a flexible and agile culture at the firm, which has benefitted the business in a number of ways and allowed the firm to retain a number of colleagues who require a flexible working pattern. The firm's Working Flexibly policy is designed to make agile working accessible to all – both men and women, and those with and without caring responsibilities.

Timewise conducted the nationwide call to action for nominations from June, calling upon the public to nominate inspirational individuals they knew, who work part time / flexibly at senior levels.

Co-Founder Karen Mattison MBE led the judging panel which included:

  • Lynn Rattigan, Chief Operating Officer of EY, UK & Ireland
  • Andrew Saunders, the deputy editor of Management Today magazine
  • Karen Blackett OBE, Chief Executive Officer of MediaCom UK
  • Katie Bickerstaffe, Chief Executive Officer of Dixons at Dixons Carphone plc, UK & Ireland
  • Sally Bundock, presenter for BBC World Business Report
  • Patrick Foley, Chief Economist at Lloyds Banking Group
  • Andrew Porter, Head of Talent Engagement of Diageo

After receiving a record number of nominations since the List’s launch in 2012, the judges compiled a list of 50 deemed to be the most outstanding. The list is not ranked or numbered in any way.

Commenting on her inclusion in the list, Sonia Campbell says: "I'm honoured to have been included in the Timewise 2015 Power Part Time List and that, by opening up about my own personal working patterns, I can help pave the way for future generations of workers – men as well as women - who will need to fit work with other major commitments in life."

Monica Burch, Senior Partner at Addleshaw Goddard says: "It's great to see one of our partners make the 2015 Power Part Time List and we will continue to do everything we can to support a wide range of working patterns, from term time working to home working to longer holiday arrangements. Today’s legal market is constantly evolving, and having a more nimble, agile business helps us to better align with our clients, whilst empowering and motivating our employees to work more flexibly – improving service delivery, productivity, efficiency and employee engagement."

Timewise co-founder and judge Karen Mattison MBE, who led the initiative from the start says: "Sonia and the other 49 individuals represent how work in the UK is changing. Part time working has reached a tipping point, and this year’s Power Part Time list is testament to this – with more entries than ever and – crucially – more men than ever. Part time and flexible working has moved from the sidelines to the centre stage. The world of work has changed, and our List tells the story of the incredible people who are shaking up the status quo."
