Expertise

Ian is a Managing Associate in the Firm's Finance & Projects division. He has over 10 years' experience working on real estate finance transactions, work-outs and restructurings and his clients include clearing banks, alternate lenders, developers and asset managers. Ian advises clients on a range of domestic and international property finance transactions with a particular focus on development and investment real estate financings in the student accommodation, built to rent and office sectors. Recently, Ian advised University Partnerships Programme on the Swansea Bay campus financing (PBSA acquisition financing), for which the Firm won the professional team of the year award (Property Week Student Accommodation Awards). Ian co-leads the real estate finance client relationship for a number of clearing bank and alternate lender clients. Clients value Ian's adroit handling of complex matters and his pro-active handling of instructions, always managing to find a way to drive matters through to a successful completion. 

  • Acted for UPP on several project financings for purpose built student accommodation (development and acquisition project financings)
  • Acted for Lloyds Bank plc on the development financing of One Embassy Gardens, Nine Elms
  • Acted for a London asset manager on the restructuring of its circa EUR600m debt obligations, secured across a pan-European property portfolio including hotels and offices
  • Acted for a UK clearing Bank on a speculative development financing of logistical warehouses located across the south of England
  • Acted for Barclays Bank PLC on private rented sector development and investment financings
  • Acted for Peel Holdings on the £325m refinancing of MediaCityUK (home of the BBC and ITV)
  • Acted for a European clearing bank on several student development financings
  • Acted for Lloyds Bank plc on the development financings of several residential programmes across the south of England
