Matthew is an associate in the infrastructure projects and energy team at Addleshaw Goddard and is based in the London office. He acts on a wide variety of matters in the energy and infrastructure sectors including project finance, project investments, acquisitions and disposals. Matthew has also undertaken a client secondment advising the infrastructure debt desk on lending fixed rate debt through its managed funds into a variety of jurisdictions, through loan, note and bond financing arrangements, across a range of asset classes. Including U.K PFI/PPP infrastructure deals, road and rail projects, solar, offshore and onshore wind projects and data centres, across the UK., Europe and the Nordics.

Experience

Advising the lending syndicate and hedge providers in relation to the development of a £300m oncology hospital for the Velindre University Hospital Trust in Cardiff

  • Advising a monoline Assured Guaranty in relation to the £350m bond financing of the latest redevelopment at the University of Sussex, known as “West Slope”.
  • Advising the borrowers on the refinancing and cross collateralisation of existing finance and security arrangements for three ProjectCo’s on a healthcare LIFT Infrastructure Project
  • Advised an investment bank operating across global markets investing in renewable energy projects in Africa, including the drafting of finance and security documentation and planning towards a coordinated completion in relation to a USD and MWK loan with local law security arrangements to an African renewable energy fintech start-up as part of a series of debt transactions totalling $20m
  • Advising an investment fund in relation to its refinancing arrangements with a solar home system and smartphone financing provider based in Malawi
