Addleshaw Goddard unveils “Freedom to Flourish” garden for RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025
London-headquartered firm launches show garden at world's most prestigious horticultural event.
International law firm Addleshaw Goddard (AG), the official legal sponsor of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025 (21–25 May), has unveiled the “Addleshaw Goddard Freedom to Flourish” show garden – a space inspired by the restorative power of nature and the importance of clarity and consistency, even in challenging conditions.
Designed by award-winning duo Joe and Laura Carey – the husband-and-wife team behind Carey Garden Design Studio – the garden draws on the raw beauty and resilience of the North Norfolk coast. It evokes the rhythm of shifting tides and coastal winds, offering visitors a place of stillness and reflection amidst natural movement.
One of the garden’s standout features is an innovative tidal water element that mimics the movement of coastal tides. At intervals, water gently rises to cover the main pathway, subtly disrupting access and creating a shifting, immersive experience that echoes the natural rhythms of the shoreline.
The “Addleshaw Goddard Freedom to Flourish” garden is Joe and Laura Carey’s second exhibit at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. In 2023, the duo won a Gold Medal and were awarded Best in Show in the All About Plants category. Last year, Addleshaw Goddard won a Gold Medal in the Balcony Garden category for the "Addleshaw Goddard Junglette Garden”.
After the show, the “Addleshaw Goddard Freedom to Flourish” garden will be donated to the firm’s UK charity partner, the Honeypot Children’s Charity, where it will become a permanent feature at a respite centre for young carers, offering them a place to relax, reflect and connect with nature. Addleshaw Goddard has raised over £330,000 since its charity partnership with Honeypot began in November 2023.
Andrew Johnston, Managing Partner at Addleshaw Goddard, said:
Laura Carey, Carey Garden Design Studio, added:
"Our aim with this garden was to create a space reflecting the understated strength of the North Norfolk coast – a setting where stillness and movement harmoniously coexist. The concept was to provide a moment of respite, enabling people to feel anchored and connected amidst an ever-changing and sometimes chaotic world.
"Collaborating with Addleshaw Goddard has been a real privilege and we are delighted the garden will have a lasting home with Honeypot."
Addleshaw Goddard entered a three-year partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) in October 2024. The partnership underlines the firm's commitment to responsible business and community support, and includes support for the RHS Campaign for School Gardening and a community outreach programme focussed on urban gardening.
More about the Addleshaw Goddard Freedom to Flourish show garden:
The design features gabion structures filled with natural materials, evoking sea cliffs while providing vital habitats for local wildlife. The planting scheme centres around sandy hues, with the exfoliating bark of Heptacodium miconioides setting the tone. These soft neutrals are enriched with layers of lilac, indigo and peach in blooms such as Oenothera odorata ‘Apricot Delight’, Baptisia australis and Hesperis matronalis.
Celebrating the wild beauty of Norfolk, the planting includes native and coastal species like Silene vulgaris, Erigeron glaucus ‘Sea Breeze’, Armeria maritima, Rumex sanguineus and Crambe maritima, reinforcing the garden’s tidal narrative and sense of place.
