Addleshaw Goddard builds momentum in Construction & Engineering Disputes with strategic partner hire

International law firm Addleshaw Goddard has strengthened its Construction & Engineering Disputes team with the appointment of Charlie Aitchison as Partner.

Aitchison joins from Vinson & Elkins, where he was a senior member of the international construction disputes team. He brings a wealth of experience advising on high-value construction and engineering disputes, including prominent roles in multi-billion-dollar international arbitrations and complex matters for leading energy, infrastructure and industrial sector clients.

Recognised for his strategic insight and measured approach to technically complex cases, Aitchison advises clients across the full spectrum of the construction and engineering industry—ranging from owners and developers to contractors, consultants, and insurers—on disputes before the English High Court and in international arbitration.

His arrival follows that of partner Jack Kennedy in Ireland last month, marking another significant step in the expansion of Addleshaw Goddard’s Construction & Engineering team, which now includes 35 partners globally and over 140 specialist fee-earners.

This appointment further advances the firm’s AG2030 strategy to strengthen its international disputes offering. Aitchison’s deep construction and engineering expertise and proven track record in leading major arbitrations align closely with the firm’s ambition to expand its global presence in contentious construction matters. His arrival reinforces Addleshaw Goddard’s position as the go-to firm for complex, high-value construction and engineering disputes, both in the UK and internationally.

Commenting on Aitchison’s appointment, Andrew Greaves, Partner, Head of Construction and Engineering Group said: ''We’re delighted to welcome Charlie to AG’s Construction and Engineering group. His extensive experience in high-value disputes significantly enhances our construction litigation capabilities. Charlie’s appointment underscores our commitment to growth—both within the team and across the firm—as we continue to align with the AG2030 vision to strengthen our disputes offering. His arrival marks an exciting step forward in expanding our market share and accelerating our journey toward becoming a recognised leader in this space.''

Charlie Aitchison, Partner Construction and Engineering, continued: "Joining Addleshaw Goddard represents a fantastic opportunity for me to become part of an outstanding team with a reputation for excellence in construction and engineering disputes.  I look forward to bringing my experience in high-value, technically complex construction and engineering matters to the firm, to further develop the global practice as part of Addleshaw Goddard’s exciting strategic vision for growth.''
