As part of a continued commitment to growth in the Oil & Gas sector, AG has announced the hire of recognised Oil & Gas expert, Anna Nerush, as a partner in the London-based Corporate Energy team.

The appointment comes as Addleshaw Goddard continues to position itself as a key player in the evolving Oil & Gas legal market, with several recent deal completions and key panel appointments.

Anna joins from the London office of Morgan Lewis, having previously worked at Norton Rose. Anna's practice includes a wide range of upstream, midstream and downstream Oil & Gas development projects, acquisitions and divestitures with projects ranging from shale and other unconventional resources to offshore developments, pipeline and processing projects, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and petrochemicals and refining, including arrangements with host governments and National Oil Companies as well as operational exploration and production (E&P) matters.

Anna has Oil & Gas experience in a number of regions, including the North Sea, CIS nations such as Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, as well as Kurdistan, Angola and Tanzania and she will be working with Addleshaw Goddard's Africa Business Group to further develop the firm's Energy practice in Africa.

Angus Rollo, head of the transactional Oil & Gas team at Addleshaw Goddard, commented: "The current low oil price environment is providing a real opportunity for firms like ours to expand our market share and to give Oil & Gas companies a genuine alternative to the Magic Circle and leading international energy firms. Anna's appointment is a huge part of that, and we're looking forward to adding her undoubted skills and experience in the sector to our existing client offering.

Market conditions remain challenging for Oil & Gas companies, but despite this we have maintained strong activity in the sector – and these recent deals highlight our profile and expertise in this area."

The appointment reflects the firm's continuing push and growth of market share in the Oil & Gas sector. The firm was appointed to BP's legal panel for the first time in 2014, and has also been cementing its position in the market with a series of completions on high profile transactions including:

  • Acting for Nobel Upstream on the proposed acquisition of an interest in the Maclure Oil & Gas field in the UK North Sea (operated by Maersk Oil) from Shell. The Addleshaw Goddard team is led by partners Guy Winter and Angus Rollo, and also includes associate Shasicca Nava.
  • Advising PA Resources on the sale of its North Sea interests (in Denmark, the UK, the Netherlands and Germany) to Petrogas. The AG team included Angus Rollo and managing associate Karen Orr. This follows work over the past year in connection with the restructuring of PA Resources where the Oil & Gas team worked closely with partners Daniel Redstone and Simon Thomas in the firm's BSR team.
  • Supporting Seven Energy on its US$100m equity fundraising involving a US$50m investment by Islamic Development Bank Infrastructure Fund II, managed by ASMA Capital, with the remainder being provided by certain existing investors, including IFC (World Bank Group) and Temasek. This is the most recent of a series of significant transactions on which the firm has advised Seven Energy in relation to the acquisition and construction of its integrated gas pipeline network in the south east of Nigeria, allowing it to deliver more gas to Nigeria's growing domestic market for power generation and industrial consumption and representing total investment of over US$1B. The AG team advising Seven Energy is led by Angus Rollo and also includes Guy Winter, Karen Orr and Shasicca Nava.
