Our culture is your story - Josh Gibbons

I originally qualified in 2015 with a regional law firm just outside London, working for that particular firm gave me a solid grounding in my area of law. I was approached about a position at AG in 2017 and with the mindset I had at the time, I thought it would be a shot to nothing. I thought the step up would be too great, that I would quickly be found out as unable to cut it at a big City law firm.

However, right from the first interview I was struck by the consideration of the Partners interviewing me; they took a genuine interest in me, not only as a lawyer but as a person, and it was obvious that they really wanted me to succeed in my career and were using the interview to see if and how they could help me move forward.

When I joined AG, my confidence was low, and I suppose without realising it I had internalised a lot from my previous working environment. However, within weeks I felt very different. The team was brilliant at welcoming me, I was given genuine responsibility on files, I was encouraged in the work I was doing, and I was trusted to work on huge development projects in the UK and beyond. It was a massive boost on every level, and from there I have never looked back.

That positive experience has stayed with me and shaped my career as it has developed. Now that I am a more senior member of the team, I am mindful to share that way of working with people. It is a crucial part of how I work to trust the more junior members of the team and give them the space to learn whilst always knowing I am here to support as necessary.

That for me embodies AG and our culture; you are encouraged to take on challenging work, you are supported in doing so and you are safe in the knowledge someone always has your back if needed.

It is important too, because clients notice how we treat each other at AG.

They remark that we get along well and feedback I receive often is that we are among the most personable firms to deal with.

We are often seen not only as their legal representatives, but also the people they can talk to about their weekends or their lives outside work.

That strength of relationship gets reflected in the quick, efficient way we do deals and deliver outstanding work. It is why clients keep coming back to us, we know our clients and our clients know us.

As they say, "it’s not what you do, it's who you do it with" and that is why I am still at AG, doing great work with great people.
