Expertise

Nick is a partner in Addleshaw Goddard’s Global Investigations team specialising in investigations, corporate crime and government controversies.  He acts for listed and privately held corporates across a range of sectors including energy, defence, pharmaceuticals, consumer goods and retail, financial services and private equity.  He has advised firms under investigation by all major UK regulators including the Serious Fraud Office, Financial Conduct Authority, Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation and the National Crime Agency.  Nick has experience before regulators in the US, South America, Europe, Asia and Africa.  He also advises Board members and other senior executives.

Nick routinely advises corporates on sanctions, export control, money laundering and related risks.  He undertakes sensitive internal investigations for clients where allegations of wrongdoing have been raised, including in relation to supply chain issues and in respect of non-financial misconduct by senior executives, and advises on self-reporting issues and related criminal and civil law exposure.  Nick supports clients with the design, implementation and ongoing enhancement of their compliance programmes.

Prior to joining Addleshaw Goddard, Nick was Senior Counsel in Slaughter and May’s Disputes and Investigations team.

Experience

Representative matters include:

  • Amec Foster Wheeler in relation to a $100m resolution with the SFO, SEC and Brazilian Authorities.*
  • BAT in a $100m resolution with the Nigerian Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.*
  • Glencore in resolving of allegations of corruption raised by the SFO and authorities in the US, Switzerland and Brazil in respect of allegations of corrupt conduct.*
  • Danske Bank in its resolution of money laundering allegations linked to its Estonian branch with authorities in the US and Denmark.*
  • A UK-headquartered listed multinational in a formal FCA investigation into allegations of breaches of market abuse regulations.*
  • Leading an internal investigation into alleged accounting irregularities at a FTSE 250 listed group, and advising in relation to subsequent regulatory enquiries.*
  • Acting for a multinational investigating allegations of non-financial misconduct against the CEO.*
  • Acting for a private equity firm in relation to a whistleblowing allegation of bribery made against the CEO of a portfolio company.*
