Adam is an Associate in the contentious construction, engineering and projects team based in Manchester. Adam qualified in 2024 and has several years of prior experience in acting for public and private sector clients in both domestic and international disputes across a variety of dispute resolution forums, including adjudication, arbitration, litigation and mediation. Adam has advised on disputes under various forms of contract (PFI/PPP, JCT, NEC, FIDIC) across a broad range of sectors, with a particular focus on PFI/PPP projects.

Healthcare

  • Acting for an NHS Trust in respect of a series of disputes concerning ventilation and fire safety defects in a PFI hospital.
  • Advising an NHS Trust in respect of a £50m claim against various parties in connection with the defective design of the structure of a PFI hospital.
  • Acting for an NHS Trust in a successful adjudication brought against an SPV concerning delays to the construction of a PFI hospital as a result of the discovery of asbestos in the ground.
  • Acting for an SPV in a successful adjudication brought against a construction contractor concerning various structural and mechanical defects in the construction of a health and leisure centre under a LIFT project.
  • Acting for an NHS Trust in respect of a £multi-million deductions claim concerning fire compartmentation defects in the construction of a PFI Hospital in the north-west.
  • Acting for Ealing Care Alliance Limited in a successful adjudication brought against London Borough of Ealing Council in relation to the validity of a benchmarking exercise in respect of a PFI care homes project. The dispute was the subject of subsequent court proceedings, in which ECA was also successful (Ealing Care Alliance Ltd v London Borough of Ealing [2018] EWHC 2630 (TCC)).
  • Acting for a mechanical services contractor in a dispute with a professional indemnity insurer regarding coverage in respect of a claim in connection with defective pipework installations in a PFI hospital.

  • Acting for a local authority in respect of delay claims brought by a contractor in connection with the construction of several schools under the Building Schools for the Future PFI programme.
  • Acting for a mechanical services contractor as responding party in an adjudication concerning defective pipework installations in a university campus research building.
  • Advising a local authority in respect of a dispute concerning defective pipework in the construction of a school.
