Addleshaw Goddard hosts leading investors for ‘Capital Plays: Investing in Sport’
In the week that London plays host to some of the leading sports conferences in the annual calendar, Addleshaw Goddard welcomed investors, fund managers and sports finance ecosystem leaders to Capital Plays: Investing in Sport – hosted at central London HQ – 41 Lothbury.
As sport continues to establish itself as a compelling and increasingly sophisticated asset class for investors, this exclusive event took a deep dive into the growing role of private capital in global sports and brought together leading voices from investment, finance and private capital to examine the opportunities emerging across teams, media, technology, infrastructure and consumer platforms.
The evening opened with a panel discussion,‘Why Sports, Why Now?’, moderated by Laura Uberoi, Partner and Head of Private Wealth Finance at Addleshaw Goddard. Joining the discussion were Helen Chipp, International Director at UBP Private Bank; Karim Ben Rejeb, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Athvance Capital; Michael Broughton, Co-Founder and Partner of Sports Investment Partners LLP; Steven Aitkenhead, Managing Partner at A.GAIN; and Ben Hakham, CIO of E-Sports Global Fund. The panel explored the factors driving investor interest in sport worldwide and the reasons why the sector has become an increasingly attractive destination for private capital.
Attendees also heard from Stephanie Wetmore, Founder and Managing Partner of Chrysalis Collective, and Kerstin Lutz, CEO of Mercury 13, during a fireside chat focused on the future of investment in sport and the opportunities being created by the sector’s continued evolution. This was followed by a second panel, ‘Untapped Potential: Investing in the Future of Sports’, moderated by Maya Herm of The Team, which explored emerging trends, innovation and future growth opportunities across the international sports landscape. Panellists included Bettina Kuperman, CEO of Saga Sports Group, and Stephanie Wetmore.
