Addleshaw Goddard advises Mapfre on the launch of its second biomethane fund

Addleshaw Goddard has advised Mapfre, as sponsor, on the launch of its second biomethane fund, Bioenergy Agro Iberia, a vehicle with a target size of €100 million, in which Abante, as manager, and IAM Carbonzero, as adviser, also participate.

The purpose of this new fund is to invest in a diversified portfolio of biomethane projects in Spain and Portugal, while also incorporating complementary activities such as biofertiliser and biocompost management, logistics, and the production and commercialisation of CO₂ for greenhouses.

The Addleshaw Goddard team advising Mapfre was led by Isabel Rodríguez, Partner and Head of Funds, together with Enrique Torné, Senior Associate, and Lara Taylor, Associate.

Isabel Rodríguez commented: “In recent years, we have seen growing interest in specialised biomethane and green infrastructure vehicles, which are becoming key instruments for channelling investment into energy transition projects with stable returns and a strong ESG impact.”

As a key new feature, this second fund expressly envisages the possibility of investing outside Spain, with a particular focus on Portugal, thereby expanding its geographical scope within Europe and reinforcing the commitment of Mapfre, Abante and IAM Carbonzero to the biomethane sector as a key driver of decarbonisation and the development of sustainable energy infrastructure.
