Momentum is building. Coordination will determine delivery.
Ireland’s energy transition is gaining momentum — but delivery is now the defining challenge.
Rapid solar deployment, rising electricity demand and renewed investment in grid infrastructure are reshaping Ireland’s energy market. At the same time, historic underinvestment in the power system, planning delays and system stability constraints are testing how quickly that momentum can be converted into operational, investable assets.
Ireland has moved from virtually zero solar PV capacity to 2.2GW in under four years, with a goal to deliver up to 8GW of capacity by 2030 as part of its climate action plan. However, coordinated planning, grid upgrades and the deployment of longer duration energy storage and additional low-carbon inertia services will be required to ensure that goal is achieved.
This edition of the Energy Investor Insight Series examines why stronger collaboration between Government, regulators, system operators and industry is now essential — and where investors are finding opportunity across solar, private power solutions, storage, biomethane and next-generation grid infrastructure.
