My name is Lisa Miller and I’m an AG Integrate Consultant currently working as a Fractional General Counsel. I was motivated to make a move into the Interim Legal Market after 6 or so years of thinking about it off and on and then during Covid lockdowns I had more time to think about it and decided I really wanted to explore a different lifestyle.
I chose to work with AG Integrate because I was aware of their good reputation through word of mouth, I had seen many interesting listings online for roles and I was really excited when something came up that I was suitable for.
The main advice I would give to anyone thinking about becoming an Interim Lawyer is to just try it and if you don’t like it you can go back to traditional employment. I have talked to a lot of GCs who are thinking about it and they're not quite sure and their main concern like my main concern over the 6 years was you know, “am I dropping off of a cliff?”, “am I going to go into some professional abyss?”, and it really isn’t like that, its just a lifestyle change. If you don’t like it you can go back to traditional employment.
The key benefits for clients using Interim Lawyers is that the clients can flex it up or down as they need as can the lawyer. For clients it really helps them meet their legal needs without having to rationalise having somebody around where they may not be enough work.
The AG Integrate support network has been really incredible, especially with the Knowledge Lawyers. Whenever something comes up within the business where you need subject matter expertise that you maybe can’t find on Lexis or PLC, AG Integrate has Knowledge Lawyers that are there for you on short notice and they provide really deep expertise especially around privacy, corporate governance, whatever it is you name it, they’ve got a Knowledge Lawyer for it.
Working as a Fractional GC with AG Integrate really does help clients meet their strategic goals or work more effectively, mainly because of the vast array of resources that AG Integrate has through Knowledge Lawyers and other subject matter expertise and training and PLC and Lexis and all the support that’s available to me is available to the client, so we’re able to meet very specific needs so if, for example, issues of privacy come up, sanctions compliance, corporate governance and when big deals are being negotiated, I can reach out to AG and ask for extra help and they are always there for us.
AG Integrate’s support network has really helped me unlock some interesting roles. They take the time to really get to know me even when I’m not available they check in regularly and they really get to know not only what my skills are, but my personality, what my preferences are for volume and complexity of work and they’re able to do a really sort of precise matching between the person and the role.
Some of the trends in the legal industry that I've seen while working with AG Integrate clients is the sort of evolution of AI within legal. So initially there was a lot of panic that we were all going to lose our jobs and be replaced by ChatGPT, but its really been sort of refined and now people are figuring out how to best use those tools and we’ve learned that the tools aren’t really as accurate as a lawyer would be in terms of giving advice, but its great for research and its great for checking documents for certain issues.
