The Data (Use and Access) Bill amends the UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). While at the date of this invitation the Bill is still going through "ping pong" between the Houses of Parliament, all the provisions except one are agreed. Organisations operating in the UK should consider whether they can benefit from the new rules, which mostly relax certain requirements, while organisations which also operate in the EU need to think about what (if any) changes they can make.

In this webinar our UK data specialists will cover the following changes that the Bill introduces:

  • Smart Data schemes, which enable consumers to request organisations to share their data with authorised third parties and establish a framework to ensure the security of the data
  • Digital verification services, which will enable individuals to identify themselves without presenting physical documents
  • New requirements for complaints procedures for breaches of data protection law
  • Clarification of the rules on how to respond to DSARs
  • Relaxation of the requirements for cookies, automated decision-making and international transfers
  • Increased fines for PECR breaches
