Our culture is your story - Manika Dhesi

When I joined Addleshaw Goddard I became part of a legal firm that represented Primark… three years before that moment I was actually working in Primark to help support myself during my second year at University in Liverpool.

I knew AG had a reputation for working with large clients and it was a big moment for me, it was a sign of how far I had come in my career.

Since joining AG I have found that opportunities are everywhere.

A few weeks after I started at the Firm an email was sent round looking for volunteers to join a project, I had no experience in the sector but I offered to help. I was selected for the piece of work and the Partner in charge spoke to me in such a respectful way, it really surprised me. This person had been doing the job for thirty years, but he still took the time to bring me in on the project and explain all the details I needed to know to do the work well. I really appreciated the level of respect and trust shown by that Partner, and it motivated me to do the best I could.

I am part of networks like AG Embrace and TST Identity along with things like the book club that my team runs. Meeting people in those forums has really helped me adjust to life back in Leeds after living in a different city during university, and I can see how those social bonds create a positive environment that encourages us all to work harder for each other.

At AG, everyone takes responsibility for the whole team’s work, not just their part of it, we work really well together.

I honestly look forward to seeing the people I work with, they make my working day (and the work I do during it) so much better.

It’s really encouraging to see a business of our size encouraging us to look after our mental health and wellbeing.
