He has particular expertise in the energy and natural resources sectors, including transactions involving Africa.

Oil and gas

  • Seven Energy on acquisitions of various upstream and midstream interests in Nigeria, on the $255 million equity investment in it by Temasek and IFC, and on various other equity and convertible bond fundraisings
  • PA Resources AB on its restructuring
  • Cairn Energy on its £414 million recommended takeover of Nautical Petroleum plc
  • Bowleven plc on a $114 million AIM fundraising

Electricity and renewables

  • SSE on the sale of 35 per cent of its equity interest in Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Ltd to Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners
  • Edison Mission Energy on the $2.2 billion disposal of its global portfolio of generation assets to a consortium led by International Power plc
  • Innogy on its £1.8 billion acquisition of Yorkshire Power Group from AES Corporation and Xcel Energy and its £1.2 billion swap deal involving the acquisition of the electricity and gas supply and metering business of Northern Electric and simultaneous disposal of the Yorkshire distribution business to Northern Electric

Water and wastewater

  • ITT Water and Wastewater (now Xylem Inc) on its $585 million acquisition of Godwin Pumps
  • Aqua Resources Fund on its €20 million investment in Waterleau Group NV
  • A major financial institution on its acquisition of Southern Water from Veolia

Mining and metals

  • Metalysis on an equity investment by Iluka Resources
  • Afferro Mining Inc on various AIM fundraising
  • Anglo American on its $545 million disposal of Boart Longyear to Advent International
  • AngloGold on its merger with Ashanti to form AngloGold Ashanti
