Martin is a partner in the Tax & Structuring team, based in Leeds. He specialises in tax and structuring advice in the context of mergers and acquisitions, particularly for owner managed businesses and private equity.  He has particular experience of supporting owner managed and family managed businesses throughout their life cycle from start-up, development, to investment and disposal. He also specialises in real estate tax, with advice ranging from SDLT and VAT on property disposals to structuring complicated joint venture developments, as well as non-UK investment into the UK.

Martin also has a niche in employment tax. In addition to advising on tax aspects of termination payments, he is very active in relation to the taxation of off-payroll workers and has been grappling with the forthcoming IR35 changes. Martin designs and implements share incentive arrangements, from government approved schemes for smaller growth companies to more complex geared growth arrangements for larger and listed clients.

Martin's core belief is that is that providing robust and proactive tax solutions is a given, but tax advice should be provided in an accessible way that his clients can understand and apply to commercial effect in their businesses. His commitment is to understand clients' businesses to make his advice relevant, practical and understandable. He is praised as being a "commercial and pragmatic thinker" in the Legal 500 directory.
