Expertise

Gemma specialises in finance litigation but has broad experience working on matters spanning general commercial litigation, arbitration (under the ICC, DIAC and LCIA rules) and regulatory investigations. Her experience includes working on complex, high value, disputes across various jurisdictions, including England and Wales, DIFC, ADGM, onshore Dubai and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. 

Gemma also has in-house experience having completed an 11-month secondment at a high street bank. The focus of her secondment was on dealing with claims alleging mis-selling of interest rate hedging products. 

Since moving to the UAE in 2022, Gemma has been heavily involved in a significant number of tech-related disputes and regularly advises a major telecommunications company in the region. This is a continued area of focus for Gemma. 

Notable experience includes:

Defending a UAE government entity in connection with a US $17 million ICC arbitration for wrongful termination of a management agreement.  

Acting for an investment entity on a US $74 million funds dispute relating to the wrongful issuance of warrant, including preparing applications for urgent injunctive relief in the BVI and Cayman Courts and acting on the commencement of an expedited LCIA arbitration.

Advising a UAE-based financial institution on a multi-million USD fraudulent trading claim threatened in the ADGM Courts pursuant to the ADGM Insolvency Regulations.

Acting for a global Bank on enforcement of a US $75 million debt, including actions to enforce bounced cheques, mortgages, rental assignment rights and advising on various recovery options in the DIFC Courts, UAE Courts and UK Courts.

Acting for a telecommunications operator in the Middle East on a DIAC arbitration concerning alleged wrongful termination of a contract with one of its authorised resellers.
