Emily Walters is a Managing Associate in our construction and projects team, based in Dubai. She has acted for a number of global leaders in the international and regional construction industry and her expertise covers both non-contentious and contentious work. 

Emily has extensive experience of handling construction disputes through a wide variety of forums including litigation, arbitration, mediation and adjudication on issues such as construction and design defects, delay claims, final account disputes and termination. Emily is also familiar with international standard forms of construction contract including FIDIC, NEC and JCT and has assisted with contract negotiations for a number of high profile developments in the GCC.

Prior to moving to Dubai, Emily was based in London where her experience included several multi-million pound claims in the specialist Technology and Construction Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.

  • Acting for an international joint-venture engaged as main contractor on a USD1.25 billion race course project in Dubai in relation to DIAC arbitration proceedings brought by a Chinese sub-contractor
  • Acting for a main contractor in a DIAC arbitration regarding claims against a Dubai based developer for extensions of time and delay costs exceeding USD20 million
  • Advising a petrochemical manufacturer on claims regarding failures at an ammonia production plant located in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
  • Acting for Qatari construction consultants in an ICC arbitration regarding payment disputes against a Turkish contractor
  • Acting for a design consultancy in a DIAC arbitration regarding a fee dispute with a Kuwaiti property developer
  • Advising a specialist engineering subcontractor on dispute resolution procedures and claims against the main contractor for a sewerage treatment plant project in Oman
  • Advising the contractor of the Ras Issa Oil Terminal Project in Yemen, including advising on issues arising out of force majeure events
  • Acting for the developer of a large medical complex in Sharjah in a DIAC arbitration regarding various failures by the design consultants
  • Acting for an Oman-based steel manufacturer in relation to the supply of steel pellets produced and shipped by a company in the Kingdom of Bahrain
  • Advising a specialist international sub-contractor on various payment and delay disputes in relation to a USD200 million commercial development in Abu Dhabi
  • Acting for a global EPC company in multi-million pound litigation in relation to design defects on various Energy and Gas projects in the Middle East and Americas, and the associated professional indemnity claims against insurers. This matter included hearings before the UK Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court
  • Acting for a specialist concrete contractor in a claim exceeding £42 million against design consultants regarding complex design defects in a large pre-cast concrete structure
  • Acting for the property investor owners in multi-party litigation regarding extensive design and construction defects in a large commercial warehouse complex and claims exceeding £13 million
  • Representing one the UK's leading cable distributors in a High Court claim against a Turkish manufacturer regarding breaches of contract and defective cables
  • Acting for insurers on a subrogated recovery against a specialist sub-contractor regarding construction defects in Wembley Stadium in London
  • Acting for a contractor in relation to a multi-million pound delay claim under a standard form design and build contract against a local authority developer
  • Advising a telecommunications operator in relation to the multi-million dollar development of new headquarters in Dubai, UAE
