Matt has a wide range of experience with a particular development, residential and investment focus and has acted for institutional property companies, developers, pension funds and occupiers. His client roster includes Federated Hermes, Mount Anvil, Marks and Spencer, Storey, Terra Firma, British Land, and Canary Wharf Group.

  • Acts for Mount Anvil and currently leading on the property aspects of two estate regenerations in Islington and Ealing (each c.1000 units) involving joint venture arrangements including advising on the structuring, agreement for leases, development agreements and collaboration agreement for the multi-phase developments (with AG corporate, construction and RED teams advising on other aspects).
  • Advised Federated Hermes on 5+ forward fundings (including development agreements) for their "Hestia" residential fund including the affordable housing leasebacks with a registered provider.      
  • Led on the real estate aspects on a number of Terra Firma transactions including the acquisition of housebuilders Hopkins Homes and Kier Housing with 20,000+ pipeline units and Richborough Homes, a planning promotion business.
  • Led on the pre-let and development aspects for Marks and Spencer of numerous major development sites including anchor store sites and various portfolio sales and leasebacks.
  • Advise flexible workspace provider Storey in relation to lettings, management arrangements and joint venture arrangements in central London including at the landmark 100 Liverpool St development.
  • Advised a number of developers in relation to affordable housing development agreements with Registered Providers.
  • Acted for British Land on the acquisition of various life sciences sites in the "golden triangle".
  • Act for Canary Wharf Group on restructuring of complex leasehold structure of their retail assets.
  • Advised Cheung Kei in relation to the acquisition and financing of 5 Churchill Place, Canary Wharf for £270m and ongoing lettings.
  • Act for Sheen Lane on the acquisition of residential sites by way of both asset and corporate sales.
  • Advised Immo on the real estate aspects of the structuring and launch of their UK fund.
  • Advised British Land in relation to real estate and structuring at its Broadgate Campus, The Cheesegrater, and other London office buildings including on the development of 100 Liverpool St dealing with enabling agreements with Crossrail, Network Rail, TfL and London Bus Services.
  • Advise Marks and Spencer on wider portfolio structuring in relation to the "modernisation" of their business.
  • Acted for St William (a JV between Berkeley Homes / National Grid) in relation to the acquisition and development of an ex-gas holder site and the onward disposal of half of that site to a national retailer.
  • Advised on the real estate aspects of various corporate disposals by Samworth Brothers (a Leeds client).
  • Acted for family trust on disposal of a site (by way of option agreement subject to planning) for a new Centre Parcs.
  • Acted on pro bono matters for various charities taking leases (e.g. dyslexia charity / Scout group).
