Charles is an associate based in our Dubai office who supports on commercial, technology and data mandates from across the Middle East region, with a particular focus on the UAE and KSA markets. He routinely drafts and advises on terms and conditions, agency and distribution agreements, commercial sponsorship and partnership agreements, technology licensing and procurement, outsourcing and goods and services contracts as well as compliance with marketing rules and digital promotional content regulation. 

Charles has particular experience advising clients on data protection matters, including compliance audits and comprehensive data mapping exercises, intra-group data sharing arrangements, cross-border data transfers, data subject rights, direct marketing and cybersecurity requirements. He also has extensive experience assisting clients manage the legal issues arising out of data breaches.

Charlie has also co-authored a chapter of a (soon-to-be published) AG global publication on electronic vehicle regulation.

  • Advising on the implementation of an ERP system and the associated support and maintenance terms for a GCC insurance company, core to the operation of their business.
  • Advising on retail distribution and licensing agreements for the supply and retail of consumer products in the GCC.
  • Supporting a Singapore headquartered biopharmaceutical company on a Phase 3 clinical trial with a GCC government-owned Contract Research Organisation (CRO) for its patented drug to treat neurodegenerative conditions.
  • Negotiating an exclusive sponsorship agreement for a global food and drinks manufacturer to supply products to one of the largest music and culture festivals in the Middle East.
  • Managing the day-to-day commercial needs of an NYSE listed consumer retail brand, including advising on distribution and supply arrangements, product roll-outs and compliance with local regulatory requirements.
  • Managing data protection compliance framework implementation projects for a range of clients across the GCC to achieve compliance with new regional laws, including those adopted in the UAE and the KSA. The projects involved personal data mapping, contract and policy drafting and remediation, intra-group data transfer arrangements and providing strategic risk analysis and recommendations.
