Addleshaw Goddard has demonstrated continuing commitment to its insurance practice, by promoting Richard Wise to Partner from 1st September 2016. Richard took over as head of the firm's insurance disputes practice in May.

Richard, who trained at the firm and has enjoyed a rapid rise through the ranks, is an insurance litigator and a specialist in international arbitration.

Addleshaw Goddard is currently ranked in Band 2 for Insurance Policyholder work in Chambers & Partners and Legal 500. Richard's appointment will continue the excellent work achieved by the firm in advising some of the biggest policyholder names in disputes with their insurers. Richard's insurance practice focuses on the representation of major national and multinational policyholders within the financial and professional services, retail and consumer, real estate, construction and pharmaceutical/health sectors. He is a specialist Bermuda Form insurance disputes practitioner, with experience of acting in complex, international, multiparty disputes.

Richard also has built up significant experience in Addleshaw Goddard's international arbitration team. His knowledge of the international arbitration market is invaluable, having assisted in setting up the firm's Singapore office, which opened in 2012, as well as spending time on secondment in the international arbitration groups of two of India's premier law firms, AZB Partners in Mumbai and Khaitan & Co in Delhi. The international arbitration team has recently appointed Sarah Vasani as Partner from King & Spalding LLP and Richard's appointment will further assist in strengthening its London offering as well as adding significant benefit to the firm's India Business Group.

Michael Barnett, Divisional Managing Partner, commented: "We are delighted that Richard will be leading the insurance team as well as continuing to play an integral role in international arbitration. The next few years represent exciting times in both fields as we continue to focus on high value, complex work and Richard is the best person to lead the insurance team through these changes. His insurance disputes and advisory practice bolster our sectors approach, for retail and consumer, financial services, infrastructure, real estate and construction clients, as well as for areas like investigations and regulatory proceedings."
