The event offers the opportunity to take stock of recent and future employment law developments and provides expert insight and practical guidance on the issues that you have to grapple with on a day-to-day basis. This year's event will cover a diverse range of topics including: Brexit, whistleblowing, gender pay gap reporting, data protection and mental health at work.

9.45 – 10.45: Recent and future employment law developments
This session will round up the key legislative and case law developments from the last 12 months, before looking ahead to consider what's on the horizon. We will cover developments in a variety of areas and the agenda is likely to include: whistleblowing, holiday pay, TUPE, equality law, employment status, unfair dismissal and forthcoming cases and legislation.
10.45 – 11.45: Brexit: what employers need to know now*
The UK's momentous decision to leave the European Union has significant implications for all employers, large and small. In this session our expert panel will:
- Take stock of where the Brexit process has got to and likely next steps
- Consider the different EU:UK relationship models and the implications for employment and immigration law, employee incentives and pensions
- Consider what steps employers should take now to protect their businesses

12.00 – 13.00: Whistleblowing: a case study
Picture the scene: a disliked senior executive is being exited, but alleges that failings identified in his department were actually protected whistleblowing disclosures. He wants a large pay-off or he will bring an unlimited and embarrassing Tribunal claim. Yet his subordinates say he is a bully. Fair dismissal or whistleblowing? Counsel from Devereux Chambers will argue the case in a mini-mock trial and demonstrate the ups and downs of whistleblowing claims and practical lessons to avoid the pitfalls.
14.00 – 14.45: Gender pay gap reporting: the final picture
The final gender pay gap reporting regulations are expected to come into force in October 2016, requiring employers to publicly report gender pay information by April 2018. In this session we will bring you up to speed with the final picture, looking at the regulations, the related guidance and how you can manage the process successfully.
14.45 – 15.30: Data protection: key developments for employment lawyers
The last 12 months have been a particularly eventful time in the world of data protection law. This session will bring you up to date on the key developments relevant to employment lawyers and HR professionals including: Brexit and the GDPR, the US Privacy Shield, case law on data subject access requests and the ICO's prosecution of an employee who stole his employer's confidential information.
15.45 – 16.30: Mental health at work
Speaker: Emma Mamo, Head of Workplace Wellbeing at Mind
Over the past few years, employee wellbeing has been rising up the agenda for employers in the UK. A key aspect of this is the mental health of staff. This session will outline how to create mentally healthy workplaces. It will explain the support that Mind can offer to employers and showcase the business-led initiatives that are tackling the taboo that surrounds mental health in the workplace.
16.30 – 17.00: "Burning question" time
Expert panel including Andrew Burns QC, Emma Mamo and a selection of AG partners
For our final session of the day we invite you to ask your burning employment law questions to our expert panel. Please send in your questions in advance and we will select a handful of questions to kick the session off. We will also open up the floor to questions on the spot.
