Female development and retention is an area of particular interest for us, given the high number of women we employ.

Over the last 6 months, thanks to our selection of unique female development initiatives, created to support women across the firm and push gender diversity, our Diversity Programme has achieved the following:

We are a signatory to the government's 'Think, Act, Report' initiative, a voluntary programme to improve gender equality in the workplace and share best practice.

Development Programmes

We continue to invest in our established internal female development programmes, designed to encourage women to aspire for senior positions within our firm and develop the skills that will help them succeed.

We have been running our flagship programme, "How to Flourish", for the last six years. During this time we have worked with over 240 women, with a long-term goal of increasing gender diversity at senior levels, and continue to work with them through ongoing alumni activities, master classes and networking events. It is a unique initiative for our firm in that around one third of each cohort are in house lawyers working for our clients and contacts. Feedback is always exceptional:

"Thank you so much for arranging the course and to the course providers who were so entertaining as well as being utterly inspirational. I have flourished!"

Returner Programme

The firm supports the work of the Women Lawyers' Division of The Law Society. We have introduced our Returner Programme, aimed at solicitors who have been out of the profession for a number of years (due to a variety of circumstances) but are looking to make a return. This placement scheme is designed to help women re-experience life in a commercial law firm, develop a network, update their skills and re-build their confidence.

Support for working parents and carers

We have significantly increased the level of support offered to working parents and carers, including the introduction of a maternity buddy scheme, lunches for new parents, webinars and seminars on subjects of interest to working parents and carers, and support with sourcing childcare. We also offer enhanced pay for employees wishing to take Shared Parental Leave which matches our generous maternity pay package.

We have worked hard over the last few years to embed a flexible and agile culture at the firm, which we know has helped to retain a number of women with caring responsibilities. For more information about our approach, please see our agile working page.
