Taking over from incumbent head Andrew Greaves, Johnston will be responsible for delivering the Firm's three year growth plans, which focus on increasing income, attracting further significant hires and expanding the AG footprint in the region.

Under the leadership of Andrew Greaves, AG has achieved significant growth going from a relatively unknown name in the GCC legal sector.

Since opening its first GCC office in 2012, the Firm has also attracted significant lateral hires (including new Head of Qatar, Ahmad Anani from Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, in April) and has continued to work for leading names including; Multiplex, Diageo, Oman Investment Fund, Qatar Holding, QNB, Rentokil, G4S, Thermo Fisher, PZ Cussons, Kasamar and Dnata.

John Joyce, Managing Partner at Addleshaw Goddard stated: "Andrew Greaves has delivered real success for us as a Firm over the past five years. We have grown from one office in Dubai to three across the region, with eight partners and 40+ fee earners. Our deep understanding of our client markets has allowed us to deliver continued value and results and I am confident that Andrew Johnston & the team out there can continue to drive success for us."

Andrew Johnston has been with the firm for five years and was previously Head of Corporate for the GCC. Andrew Greaves will remain as a partner in the GCC and will take over Andrew Johnston's position as an observer on the board for the remainder of the term to 30 April 2020.

Andrew Johnston said: "We have achieved some great success to date in the region, but we have ambitious growth plans for the next three years and are all focused on achieving these objectives. Our pipeline is strong, but I am keen to focus on attracting new talent, continuing to win credible, market-leading mandates and further driving forward the AG brand. There is a lot happening in the region at the moment, presenting us with an opportunity to leverage our expertise and deliver real impact. I am excited to be at the helm for this exciting period."
