Our Paralegal roles are a fantastic opportunity for bright, enthusiastic candidates who are interested in pursuing a career in the legal sector. You will gain valuable experience at a large, reputable law firm and will join an innovative, established team.

At Addleshaw Goddard, we realise that the legal market is changing and our clients are looking for more effective ways of working. In response, we launched the TST in 2010.

The award-winning team of paralegals, apprentices and managers delivers more for less. It does this by providing a wide range of legal services across our business, in either a stand-alone or an integrated way, alongside AG's lawyers. The common theme of the tasks carried out is that they are found in legal assignments but don't necessarily need to be carried out by qualified lawyers.

We have built on our early successes, broadening the work the team carries out and innovating using technology, to become even more competitive. Our numbers continue to grow with the team averaging at a headcount of 180+, up from a starting group of 5. The TST's expansion reflects not just the success of our approach, but our determination to deliver better services for clients, increase the quality of our work and create an attractive environment for the very best people.

The TST is based across our UK offices, with central teams in Manchester, Leeds and Edinburgh. We also have paralegal roles that are embedded within the departments in most of our UK office locations.

Expertise and experience

TST’s work is varied, challenging and interesting.

We input on a huge range of matters supporting each of AG's groups/practice areas, including real estate, litigation, finance and projects, corporate and commercial. The range and scale of our work is compelling, from highly complex pieces to the everyday. This makes each day different and team members continually develop new skills and legal knowledge.

Examples of work include e-disclosure reviews, due diligence, online data room management, mergers and acquisitions transaction support, property sales and acquisitions, drafting and negotiating contracts and commercial contract reviews. As part of a premium international law firm, we input on high-profile matters and, over the last 12 months, have worked on three of the largest cases in the UK court system and acted on headline-grabbing mergers and corporate restructurings.

Why TST?

As well as a competitive salary and flexible benefits package, TST will provide an exciting opportunity for the right person to develop and work as part of an established team at the forefront of legal industry changes. At the same time, they will gain experience of working in a top international law firm, alongside our solicitors and partners.

Reasons to join the TST
Range of work

Our range of work means that you'll gain a broad range of experience. We don't ask our paralegals to overspecialise; we do take account of their preferences for certain work. Our client base is impressive and we have fantastic opportunities to work with some of the UK's largest FTSE 100 clients.

Training

We are committed to offering our people the chance to learn and develop and you will receive full training and supervision.

Career progression

We recognise our people are the foundations of the firm. As such, we are committed to offering them the chance to succeed and flourish, and to promoting from within where possible. This is why we created a career framework for the team, which enables talented individuals to quickly progress and take on new roles and responsibilities. This also ensures a review every three months to check that we're helping you meet your development goals and to discuss your progress.

Training contracts and CILEx

We also realise that some of those who join us are ultimately seeking training contracts. As such, we have devised an internal training contract application process, which takes into account performance in TST as part of the selection. There are many examples of AG trainees who began their career in TST, while we also offer CILEx sponsorship for strong performers who wish to work towards becoming a chartered legal executive.

Location of roles and client secondments

The way we flexibly structure our team creates opportunities for paralegals to work in each of our UK offices, either in our central teams or embedded within our groups. Individuals can also transfer between roles and offices. This means you may have the opportunity to work with different people and practice areas across the firm.
We also encourage those who want to work on client sites. Given the size of the team, clients regularly request placements of durations ranging from a few weeks to over a year. Our people have worked throughout the UK and in Europe, including London, Copenhagen, Guernsey, Edinburgh, Stevenage, Northampton, Leeds, Carlisle and Manchester.

Other opportunities

Opportunities within the team are almost limitless and we are keen to ensure that our strong performers get the very best of their time with us.

There is a strong team culture, with members able to take part in charity initiatives and sports teams, and even join the social committee. Many clients have commented on the fresh, supportive and collaborative atmosphere within the team.

There are also opportunities to contribute to its ongoing development. The TST has expansion plans and is constantly evolving and we are looking to team members to help us do that - and you don't have to have been with us long to make a significant contribution!
