Addleshaw Goddard's Financial Regulation Group runs an annual training programme on key regulatory issues in financial services.


We are delighted to welcome you back to our annual Regulatory Essentials Training Programme. The sessions, where we discuss key regulatory issues in financial services, are ideal for new joiners. The seminars are also a good opportunity for others in legal, compliance and business functions to refresh and update their regulatory knowledge and practice.

This year the programme will run between May and December. Ninety-minute lunchtime webinars will be held every two to three weeks, with a break over August.

We are keen to work with our clients to embed this programme into their in-house induction or L&D training programmes. Places are limited so we ask that you make every effort to participate in each session. A summary of this year's programme is set out below:

Session 1: Opening Session

Introduction:

This will give an overview of the financial services industry and the regulation governing it. It will include a brief history of UK regulation, the roles and responsibilities of UK authorities, as well as explaining the essential elements of the regulatory framework, while flagging up current trends and key themes.

Session 2: Data Protection in Financial Services

Introduction:

This session will provide an overview of the key Data Protection legislation in 2020. It will also discuss the top 10 priorities in the Data Protection sector for 2020, including implications of Brexit and COVID-19 in this area.

Session 3: Financial Crime in Financial Services

Introduction:

This session will provide an overview of how the criminal law, regulatory rules and guidance fit together. It will also discuss regulations relating to anti-money laundering and counter terrorist financing and other key aspects of criminal law for financial services lawyers to be aware of. It will also cover the role of financial services regulation in its controls against financial crime.

Session 4: Consumer Credit Regime

The session provides an overview of the UK's consumer credit regime, including key provisions under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 on regulated credit and hire agreements and the unfair relationship provisions under the Act.
