Beryl Wu focuses her practice on commercial litigation, international commercial arbitration, regulatory investigation, and cross-border insolvency and bankruptcy matters. She regularly represents Asia-based clients including financial institutions, state-owned entities and multinational corporations, specifically with regard to court proceedings as to enforcement of arbitration awards, asset recovery, liquidation disputes and related court proceedings.
Beryl regularly advises clients throughout Asia in international investigations by government and regulatory agencies, including the Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption, the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Recent experience include:
- Representing Hong Kong investors in a claim against a Chinese government authority for losses and damages in the sum of around RMB20 billion arising from a breach by the Mainland authority of the obligations in the CEPA Investment Agreement
- Representing a Chinese state-owned enterprise in a joint venture shareholder dispute and the relevant winding up court disputes
- Representing a Chinese state-owned enterprise focusing on financial services in a debt recovery court proceedings in relation to bond default of around HK$500 million by a Hong Kong listed Company and the relevant winding up court proceedings
- Advising high net worth individuals in asset recovery in Hong Kong, England and BVI in the sum of around HK$130 million arising from fraudulent misrepresentation by an investment bank
