Expertise

Jenny is an Associate within the Commercial Services division, based in our Edinburgh office. She has experience advising on a variety of data protection, IP/IT and commercial contract matters for clients in a variety of sectors and has supported on large ongoing projects as well as day-to-day queries.

Jenny has worked on a number of GDPR compliance projects and has experience in the drafting of internal policies, and negotiation of data processing contracts with third parties. She has also worked on the compilation of data processing registers and advised on projects focused on international transfers of personal data. Jenny has recently undertaken a part time secondment to a multinational oil and gas company, providing dedicated support to their privacy team on issues across all aspects of the business.

Experience

Data / Information Experience

Recent experience includes:

  • Providing dedicated legal support, in the form of a part time virtual secondment, to the data privacy team at a multinational oil and gas company, including supporting internal projects, analysing the flow and processing of employee data, international data transfers and general business queries relating to data processing by third parties
  • Advising a large automobile manufacturer on their binding corporate rules application, including reviewing comments from European supervisory authorities and liaising with the ICO in responding to these queries
  • Drafting a privacy impact assessment and legitimate impact assessment for a housing associated in relation to a new project processing financial data of vulnerable individuals
  • Supporting a multinational agribusiness with their binding corporate rules application currently being co-reviewed by European supervisory authorities, including advising on policy amendments and the creation of a data processing register
  • Advising an international, US-based industrials company with their GDPR compliance project, including high level mapping of the group's data flows, the drafting of data protection policies, creation of a data processing register and putting in place mechanisms for the transfer of data to a US parent company
  • Part of the team providing support to a national public service provider for their GDPR compliance project, including reviewing existing policies and the drafting of internal processes to be used by the business

Commercial Contracts and IP/IT Experience

Recent experience includes:

  • Advising on a services agreement for the provision of commercialisation services in a Northern Irish shopping centre owned by a large investment company
  • Part of a team providing commercial contract support in relation to a large Scottish onshore wind farm project on the Isle of Lewis (previous firm)
  • Advising a local software company on their online software licencing terms and conditions of use for the online provision of their product
  • Providing assistance in the purchase of a large timber company, in particular in relation to IP and software agreements
  • Leading on the negotiation of a software supply agreement with an international video game vendors on behalf of a major online retailer (previous firm) 
  • Advising an international online retailer in relation to an agreement to allow an international software developer to sell their antivirus, security software through the website (previous firm)
