Richard advises on high-value, multijurisdictional disputes across a number of industry sectors and has been involved in some of the most high-profile cases to come before the English Courts in recent years. He also has experience of advising clients in relation to 'white collar' criminal and regulatory issues and investigations in a number of jurisdictions and market sectors, with particular emphasis on bribery, corruption and money laundering matters. Richard also has experience in disputes and regulatory issues in the aviation sector.


Richard has acted for:

  • One of the largest property development companies in the Middle East and a Bahraini investment bank in a $1 billion Commercial Court claim involving allegations of conspiracy and breach of confidence
  • Deutsche Bank in one of the most complex and high-value disputes arising from the 2008 financial crisis, worth approximately $8 billion, which culminated in a 16-week Commercial Court trial
  • The design and build contractors in a dispute arising from the construction of Wembley Stadium, described as the largest construction litigation to come before the English Courts

Richard has also advised on a number of matters involving issues of bribery and corruption and money laundering, including:

  • Acting in relation to a significant internal investigation for a FTSE 100 client
  • Advising on issues of bribery and corruption in a mergers and acquisitions context in a number of corporate sectors including oil and gas
  • Advising in relation to the strategic, regulatory and litigation aspects of bribery allegations in relation to a joint venture in the telecommunications sector

Richard's aviation experience includes:

  • Acting for a British airline in a contested hearing before the Civil Aviation Authority in respect of the allocation of rights to operate flights into a major North African city
  • Advising the Republic of Cyprus in its intervention in a judicial review concerning the Secretary of State's refusal to grant direct air routes to the northern part of Cyprus
  • Acting for insurers in relation to the late return of a B747-400 on lease to a major international airline
  • Advising a major British airline in litigation against a regional airport following the airline's withdrawal of its services
