Alan has thirty years’ experience of criminal and regulatory law and was previously Head of Casework with HSE handling complex and sensitive investigations across England and Wales. He has extensive experience of prosecutions, inquests, enforcement notices and public inquiries. Prior to that, Alan led teams of prosecutors in the Crown Prosecution Service, mainly in the North West, dealing with serious crime. Alan is an experienced advocate and has regularly delivered training to a variety of stakeholders including regulators, the police, the judiciary, corporates and the legal community. He is the independent chair of the Football Association of Wales' Appeals Panel. Alan is part of Addleshaw Goddard's health and safety practice in the wider Global Investigations Group.

  • Leading a prosecution into breaches of the Diving at Work Regulations
  • Leading on the prosecution arising out of the Alton Towers rollercoaster crash
  • Leading HSE's response to the mid Staffordshire Hospital scandal, public enquiry and prosecution
  • Leading on the crown censure of the Ministry of Defence arising from fatalities during special forces training 
  • Delivering training to the Thai judiciary
