Addleshaw Goddard has acted for leading providers of debt finance into the UK education sector and has been involved in loans to over sixty higher or further education institutions throughout the United Kingdom since 1995.

A sample of our recent experience:

  • Financing structures including senior and mezzanine debt on a variable or fixed rate basis or backed by hedging products. 
  • Borrowers include higher and further education institutions, private sector developers and operators of student residences, independent schools and single purpose vehicles.
  • The Group has been very active in the PFI/PPP education sector in the past, working alongside schools and local authorities on a number of school construction and refurbishment projects.
  • The Group has been involved in financing the development or refurbishment of student residences, training and other educational facilities and (in some cases) entire campuses as well as science park and school relocation and refurbishment projects.
  • Certain private sector residence financings have involved innovative VAT structures and nomination agreement arrangements involving universities.
