Value-added services
The Construction Group has over 40 specialist lawyers and advises on all construction, engineering and procurement issues on all sides of the UK and international construction industry.
Spread over three offices in Leeds, London and Manchester, we are a law firm with experience of working with all parts of the domestic and international construction industry. We provide incisive advice, proactive support and an all round legal service to enable you to run your business more effectively and improve that all important profit margin, whichever part of the industry you come from and wherever you are based.
As a dedicated construction practice, we have extensive experience of working within the construction industry: we know how it works and understand the complex issues it faces on a daily basis. Our preferred approach is to work as part of your team to ensure the success of your project whether that is setting up or managing a project, chasing your entitlements or defending claims.
Through our unique blend of expertise, resource and value for money, we add definable value for clients at each stage of the construction process.
Our services are based on three key platforms:
Commitment to Construction
Construction is a fundamental area of our business and we are deeply committed to it. We have over 40 dedicated lawyers with the expertise and capacity to handle all types of projects across all sectors of the UK and international construction industry.
Our wide range of clients includes some of the UK's largest developers, employers, contractors, sub-contractors, public authorities, insurers and funds as well as clients in North America, Eastern Europe, the Far East and the Middle East.
Construction contracts and procurement, projects and dispute resolution construction lawyers work closely together within the Construction Group to devise strategies to enable our clients to deliver successful projects and avoid disputes.
Thinking with our clients
We work in partnership with you to deliver the right solutions for your business. We understand your commercial and individual needs and think in your shoes. We do not give standard responses or sit on the fence. We are commercial and direct.
We help identify their objectives, agree the appropriate strategy with them and manage that strategy so that ultimately, their objectives are met.
Innovative solutions
We recognise that margins on construction projects get tighter and tighter. We strive constantly to find innovative approaches to difficult problems which are commercially focused and designed to save you time and money. For example:
- We have developed a funding solution: R£COVERTM - that allows an adjudication to be run without a significant outlay of costs and with full regard to the risks associated with the adjudication process. You are invoiced a nominal administration fee covering incidental costs. Thereafter, you don't pay us anything unless we achieve a successful outcome. At that point, we receive a percentage of the sums obtained. In short, if we don't deliver we don't get paid!

- we have pioneered '3 in 1 TM' as a cutting edge alternative to collateral warranties. 'Three in One Contracting TM' responds to a widely expressed desire on the part of clients for lawyers to come up with innovative solutions to the high cost, delay and excessive paperwork involved in meeting the drafting requirements of development projects, and to cut out the massive duplication involved in the conventional use of collateral warranties from consultants, contractors and sub-contractors. Our view is that this structure will become more and more commonplace over the next few years and that those members in the industry who adopt this concept early will be well positioned to reap the rewards.

- we have designed an early dispute identification tool: PrEvent TM. Construction disputes are expensive and disruptive. We have found that many claims and disputes are either entirely avoidable, or, at the very least, that any negative effect can be mitigated by timely, and cost effective action. However, this can only happen if the problem is identified and acted upon at an early stage. PrEvent TM helps our clients to achieve this. It is designed to fulfil two simple aims: to reduce clients' legal spend, and attempt to eliminate needless disputes.
- we offer a Letter of Intent Review Service which helps clients to reduce cost and risk by entering into an agreement which reflects what they intend.
